PERFECTION IS OVERRATED: BE YOURSELF By: Michael Cross (Dr. Tru Luv) “Being happy doesn’t mean that everything is perfect, it means that you’ve decided to look beyond the imperfections.” When it comes to finding love, this quote rings true. It seems that today, most people are searching for the “perfect” someone, or that “perfect” relationship. Our society has created an image of what perfection should be, and sadly, people believe it’s true, searching for it every day of their single lives. Instead of looking for what they would personally desire in a mate, they wind up chasing after something that may not exist. Have you ever been interested in someone, but ignored the potential of the relationship because you listened to others tell you that you could do better? You should never allow others to sway your decisions when it comes to dating. Friends can offer valuable pieces of advice, but they should never make choices for you. After all, you should be living life according to what makes you happy, not by what pleases others. Perfection, by all accounts, is a term created by society. You may never find what you are looking for if you are waiting for someone who fits society’s standard of perfect. Just think what, or who, you might pass up! Every person possesses imperfections, and so does every relationship. Being happy with your mate means that you learn to look beyond the imperfections and love the person for who they are. Be yourself, and find someone that appreciates that. Also, be sure you appreciate them, as well. Only then will you experience a satisfying relationship. When you find someone that fits with you, embrace it. Don’t let the world be your eyes.
